Procrastination Isn’t Laziness — It’s Lack of Clarity

We beat ourselves up for procrastinating.

“I’m lazy.”
“I just can’t focus.”
“I keep getting distracted.”

But most of the time, the real issue is clarity.

Your brain isn’t trying to sabotage you — it’s trying to protect you from vague threats.
When you don’t define what “finish” looks like, the brain says: “let’s avoid this.”

Because to your mind, unclear = unsafe.

Here’s how to fix it:

  • Don’t write “Finish project.” Write “Draft 3 bullet points for intro.”

  • Don’t aim for “Workout.” Say “Put on shoes and walk 5 mins.”

  • Don’t plan the month. Decide today.

The smaller and clearer the step, the lower the friction.

Clarity is the bridge between intention and action.

Next time you procrastinate, ask:
“Is this hard — or just unclear?”
